JSW’s upcoming Jetour T2 SUV scores a 5-star safety rating: Details

JSW Motors is preparing to launch the Jetour T2-based SUV in the Indian market. The company recently filed a patent in India and has also posted an “inviting dealer partners” advertisement on its social media platforms, indicating the SUV’s arrival could be imminent. And now, in ASEAN NCAP crash tests, the Chery Jetour T2 has secured full five stars in crash tests for both adult and child occupants. The crash test was conducted on the 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre ICE versions. The SUV has a total score of 86.50 points across adult occupant protection, child occupant protection and safety assistance systems. In Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), the SUV scored 29.74 out of 32 points. In the frontal impact test, it recorded 13.74 out of 16, offering good head and neck protection for front occupants, adequate protection for the driver’s chest and marginal protection for the driver’s left leg. The frontal passenger compartment was rated stable.

The model also achieved 8.00 out of 8.00 in the side impact and head protection test, with all key body regions receiving a ‘good’ rating. In Child Occupant Protection (COP), the Jetour T2 scored 40.63 out of 51 points. Under safety technology, the SUV scored 18.00 out of 21 points. It received full marks of 6.00 out of 6.00 for Effective Braking Avoidance (EBA) and Seat Belt Reminder (SBR), 1.25 out of 2.50 for AEB City, 1.75 out of 3.50 for AEB inter-urban and 3.00 out of 3.00 for advanced Safety Assist technologies. Safety features include six airbags, ESC, ABS, seatbelt reminder, blind-spot detection, pedestrian protection, child presence detection, rear occupant detection and ISOFIX mounts. Driver assistance systems include AEB, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, auto high beam and AEB functions for motorcycles and pedestrians. In terms of design, the Jetour T2 adopts a boxy, upright shape typical of off-road SUVs, with a wide rectangular grille, integrated LED lighting, and round headlamp housings featuring horizontal LED elements. A flat bonnet, thick bumper, and skid-plate-style lower section add to its off-road-focused design. Along the sides, it features squared wheel arches, body cladding, and a straight shoulder line linking the front and rear. The tall stance, large alloy wheels, and roof rails further underline its SUV proportions. At the rear, the SUV has a vertical tailgate with a spare wheel mounted on it, along with slim LED tail-lamps and a prominent bumper.

The international-spec Jetour T2 is offered with plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains, but the version planned for India has not been confirmed. Globally, the plug-in hybrid uses a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 154hp and 220Nm, paired with a 26.7kWh battery that supports single-motor front-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations. The battery is rated for a claimed 139km range under the NEDC cycle. Reports indicate the India-spec model is likely to use the hybrid system instead of the EV option.

Moving inside, the Jetour T2 features an upright cabin layout with a wide, layered dashboard, reflecting its off-road focus. It gets a large tablet-style touchscreen and a fully digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, along with a tall centre console that includes a gear selector, physical controls, and storage spaces. Grab handles, metallic accents, and contrasting trim are also part of the design.Key features include a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, a 12-speaker Sony sound system, powered and ventilated front seats, and automatic climate control. Safety equipment includes a 360-degree camera, Level-2 ADAS, and hill start and descent assist. These features are expected to be offered on the India-spec version as well.
